Heart and Lung Procurement

Learning objectives:

1. Understand brief regulatory requirements surrounding organ donation 
2. Perform and interpret standard preoperative on-site workup for evaluating heart and lungs for transplant
3. Become familiar with the supplies and instruments needed for heart and/or lung procurement
4. Perform preoperative tasks such as positioning, prepping, and draping the organ donor
5. Understand the operative techniques for performing heart and lung procurement in both warm and cold dissection environments, including splitting of lungs.
6. Assess hearts and lungs for acceptance for transplantation in-situ
7. Understand unique situations such as DCD donor
